Apostille for USA from India
USA is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention (in force since 15 October 1981). Indian documents for use in USA therefore need state-level attestation followed by an MEA apostille. A separate embassy attestation is generally not required. Always confirm what the receiving authority asks for.

What to know for USA
Many US universities and credential evaluators do not ask for an apostille at application stage. An apostille is more common for official uses such as marriage, adoption, business registration or when a specific authority asks.
- Ask the university, employer or USCIS-related authority whether an apostille is required.
- Credential evaluation services have their own document rules.
- Keep scanned copies of every apostilled page.
How we help
